Are you allowed to drive in America with an English license and if not what happens if you do? [closed]

Hope this is not too off topic but I have an English license and I am coming to America for the Holidays. Will they let me drive with my license and if they wont what are the penalties for doing it. I am a foreigner so there is not much they can do?

Anyone here with a bit of experience?

Yes. Both the United States and the United Kingdom are parties to the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic. Also since both countries use the same language, you will not need an IDP.

1   International Driving Permit - Basicly an official multi language translation of a driver's license. It is needed when a driver's license is in a different language. - dashJul 31  '12 at 00:43
