Its hard to imagine who nowadays could announce themselves as Moshiach (and truly is) and everyone will follow him? Do you have any idea as to who is universally popular nowadays?

Lebavitches will wait for there Rebbe no matter who turns up.
Chassdim will all wait for a Rebbe (perhaps of their own dynasty) to turn up?
The true Litvishe will never follow a Chassdishe Rebbe.
Sefardim would (i need help with this one) ...

I heard once from a reliable source that it is going to be Reb Osher Arieily. The proofs are as follows:

His beard is red and moshiach is ben David who was also Red.
He is a big Anav which Moshiach is supposed to be as well
He is universally loved! Really!

Sorry, Reb Yaackov Hillel, you can be his Gabbai!

not sure about youre last suggestion. was once at a Shmooze of his that rumours went round saying whoever comes to listen to it will get engaged straight away. Anyway I went and he said to get engaged to the first girl you date even with no physical attraction there at all. Well, if he is Moshiach, I aint a big fan of his Shittos - DannyAug 20 '12 at 23:09

1 I doubt that you will find anybody "universally" accepted. In my humble opinion these 2 Rabbonim (beside being huge Talmidai Chachomim - they seem to be able to relate, and gain respect from all walks of yiddishkeit - including CHASSIDIM, SEFARDIM, and LITVAKS - SJRAug 21 '12 at 00:30
