Is there anything wrong with wearing Crocs on Tisha Bav

We all know that crocs are much comfortable then plimsols and a lot of people tend to wear them on Tishah B'av! Is it Ossur because they are as comfortable as leather shoes? And even of they are Muttar is it still wrong to use them. I have never heard of someone saying that he should not eat good fish because it is as good as meat?

Any thoughts?

2) Non leather shoes that are very comfortable (such as cozy slippers, air sneakers, crocs, etc.), although M’Ikar Hadin they may be worn on Tisha B’Av, there is valid Halachic room for stringency to avoid wearing them.

The Chazon Ish and other Gedolei Yisroel would not wear any shoes on Tisha B’Av and spent the day in socks or with very thin footwear so that they would “feel the floor”. (See Halichos Shlomo Perek 15:4. Rav Moshe Sternbuch shlita and Rav Nisim Karelitz shlita also rule that a Yerei Shomayim, a G-d fearing person, should avoid shoes that are worn all year round for comfort, even if they aren’t leather)

Even those who are more lenient on Yom Kippur and wear comfortable non-leather shoes should be more stringent on Tisha B’Av as we try to minimize comforts on Tisha B’Av as much as possible. (Halichos Shlomo Perek 15 footnote 5 quoting the Sha’arei Teshuva Siman 554:11 and footnotes Orchos Halacha there 19-21)

For Halacha L’Ma’aseh, as always, a Rav must be consulted.

I have never heard that Tisha B'av is sticter than Yom Kippur, thats so intersting, because all of the afflictions are copied from Yom Kippur - shteeblehopperJul 29  '12 at 16:23

There is a Machlokes whether the issur of leather shoes extends to wood shoes. According to the Shulchan Aruch it is limited to leather but the Mishna Brurah says that one should be Machmir.

HEARD from a few Rabbonim in E'Y that the whole point of no leather shoes on Tisha B'av is to "suffer" a little and crocs are too comfortable to achieve this - do not remember the word Ossur, but definitely better not to wear something too comfortable.

2   My guess - no matter how good the fish is "in the velt" meat is more enjoyable - period. - SJRJul 25  '12 at 19:25

I can now testify that it is half way through Tisha B'av and my feet are KILLING me. So no, Crocs are not all that comfortable and are therefore absolutely fine. On a serious note, Chazal said only leather and that is that!
