Gedolim produce Gedolim. Success breeds success. Is it fair to say that the Ovois and the Shevatim would have been the same great had they not had the fathers that they had? I appreciate that they wouldn't have known as much about Hashem, but in how much they fought their Yetzer Hora would there have been a difference?

Reb Chaim Kanievsky is the son of the Steipler. Nephew of Chazon Ish. etc etc. Definitely nowadays it goes in families but I doubt by the Ovois it was based on families. Look at Rivkah! - small fryJul 12  '12 at 01:20
