Is acting Heimish and being a Heimishe counted as an important thing in Yiddishkeit?

I have a friend who is from a working type of family but he learns 3 Sedarim a day, and keeps Halacha meticulously. I on the other hand much to my chagrin have become a bit burnt out from the learning and dont really put so much effort into it.

Someone told me that that person will get much further in life because he is keeping more Halacha and learning more then me. However, I disagree and on this I would like to hear other peoples opinions. I believe that I am more likely to end up with a much frummer family with the correct Hashkafos because it is internal by me.

True, I am struggling now but one day I will be there. However, if someone learns his 3 sedarim a day and no more, then it suggests that he might be a person who follows orders but it hasn't internalised. Therefore it might not pass on to the next generation.

What do you think?

Welcome back deepThinker. I don't think you have supplied enough information about your friends background. Can you do so in order to help us answer? - Yehuda HaMaccabiApr 29  '13 at 00:53
