Why did Yosef not send a message to Yaacov all the years he was in Egypt, surely as a king he could have done what he wanted?

Hi Yoni and welcome to Need An Eitzah. Thanks for your answer, would you be able to perhaps give us some more information as to where this can be found in the Chumash, or perhaps a link on http://hebrewbooks.org? See you around! - Yehuda HaMaccabiJan 29  '13 at 21:36

Because Yosef thought that Yaakov was in on the sale and had rejected him. Only when Yehuda tells Yosef how dismayed Yaakov would be if Binyomin is killed/taken does Yosef realize the truth and he sends word immediately to his father.

Same question could be asked Why Yitzchak did not tell him - Had HAHSHEM wanted Yaakov to know - HE would have let it be known to him (rather Hahshem took away his Ruach Hakoidesh). Yosef realized that there must be a reason why Yaakov did not know and understood that there was a purpose for the story to play out as it did

2   Had Yaakov still retained his Ruach Hakoidesh - SURELY he would have come to Mitzrayim right away - Yosef realized by the fact that he did not come down that he lost his R"H - SJRDec 24  '12 at 16:42
